About Us
It's hard to believe that 22 years ago I couldn't even sew on a button, let alone quilt! It was while wading through one of life's difficult times that my sister suggested I take a quilting class. I never did like to sew and thought her suggestion was a little crazy...but I did it anyway. I fell in love with the cutting, sewing and especially all the wonderful fabrics available. I finished my first class, a Trip Around the World and was ready to have it quilted. I asked my sister who had a long arm to quilt it for me and she said nope you need to do it yourself. I thought to myself I can hardly sew on a sewing machine, I can't sew on that HUGE machine. I did it and loved that as well.
As a single mother of three young children, I needed additional income so, I took out a loan to purchase a long arm machine and quilted while my children were in bed. When I was informed that my full time job in the computer field learned was being moved overseas I began researching the prospect of opening my own quilt shop. Six months later in 2003 I opened Quilter's Cocoon, where I could indulge my passion for fabric and quilting and share that enthusiasm with others.
Four years into the business, I married a wonderful man (Richard, the shop husband) who also fell in love with quilting. He has a real talent for color and design, as well as long arm quilting. Currently, he runs the machine quilting side of the business and Handi Quilter sales and service, while I concentrate on buying the fabric and having fun with customers.
When not involved with the shop, we love spending time with our beautiful family, combined 5 children, a son-in-law, 3 grandchildren and Daizee and Bella our mini Dachshunds.
We look forward to serving you!
