Supply List
Fabric – It is important when selecting fabric to choose highly contrasting fabrics. For best results choose fabrics that do not blend together and from a distance they are visually different. Pick fabric in a variety of scale and/or visual textures for interest. Avoid directional fabrics (ex. Stripes or a “one-way” design)
This pattern suggests 3 different fabrics. Color #1, Color #2, Color #3. For Color #1 and #2 you need to choose two different fabrics that contrast eah other but go well together. Color #3 is the background fabric. The background fabric should be a neutral – solid or small pattern as not to distract form the design.
The finished size after adding the borders will be 60” x 60”. The outside border fabric guidelines given will allow you to make a border that is 4 ½” finished. The inner border allows a 1 ½” finished border. Adjust the border yardage if you wish to make a wider borders.
Yardage Needed
Color #1 – 1 3/8 yds.
Color #2 – 3/8 yd.
Color #3 – Background – 1 ¾ yds.
Border - color #1 (suggested) – 1 yd.
Inner border – Color #2 (suggested) – 3/8 yd.
Binding - Color #1 or Color #2 – 5/8 yd.
Supplies Needed
Basic sewing items – pins, scissors, thread to blend with fabric, marking pen or pencil, etc.
Sewing machine in good working order
Small iron (optional)
Rotary cutter, mat, rulers
Bring some snacks and wear comfy clothes! It’s going to be so much fun!
Homework!
Please cut the following before class – this will help us get a quick start to this quilt! Label cut pieces and place in separate baggies for organization. If you are unable to cut all of the following fabric – please try to cut at least a few of each. Bring remaining fabric to class.
Fabric #1 –
• 2 strips – 7” x WOF (width of fabric)
Subcut into – 8 – 7” squares
• 7 strips – 3 ½” x WOF there will be strips left over)
Subcut into – 8 – 3 ½” squares
64 – 3 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
• 4 strips – 2” x WOF (width of fabric)
Subcut into – 64 – 2” squares
Fabric #2 –
• 5 strips – 2” x WOF
Fabric #3 Background –
• 2 strips – 7” x WOF
Subcut into – 8 – 7” squares
• 8 strips – 3 ½” x WOF (there will be strips left over)
Subcut into – 64 – 3 ½” x 2” rectangles
